Q: How can I rock the dark lip trend in a less aggressive way?

Answer : There are some things that are ubiquitous for fall, like the season's favorite beauty trend: the rich, wine-hued lip. We saw it on the fall runways at Vera Wang, Derek Lam, and Miu Miu, just to name a few, and models and non-models alike are sporting their versions of the grapey-goth color. So, how can we make it unique?

Since wine hues are bold by color, tracing it in with a lip liner can make it seem much more aggressive. For something a little more unique and sexy, try the blurred-lip technique that was at Marni Fall '13 and Ohne Titel Spring '14. The lips were still dark, but the edges were soft, looking almost out of focus. It’s the perfect solution for those who are overwhelmed by a super dark lip or who want to try something edgy and modern.
